A little bit about myself and my journey
Born in Germany to a single mother of 2, Life was anything but easy. However you have to make do with what you have available and think outside the box to get what you want. Very early on I had to take on the responsibility and got pushed into adulthood looking after my younger sister whilst my mother was at work. Fast forward with my Stepdad and brothers all with miliary background you can imagine the regime we had to follow at home. At the time I found it quite harsh but I have to say, reflecting on it, it did do me good, very good in fact.
I was brought up with discipline, with an independent if not rebellious mindset and zest for Living life and mastery of all sort of challenges that life throws at you. I moved out of my parents’ house at the age of 16 to live my own life, moved countries several times, grew, learnt and adapted very quickly to new cultures, languages and experienced varied cultural differences. Sometime after I graduated with a Languages and economics degree, I joined the Police in Germany and I loved it, I felt I had a purpose, to stand up for what is right. I always had a strong sense of doing the right thing, helping people, as I felt that if I have the skills and experience why not share it?
In 2007 I decided to move to England from Riga, Latvia where I spent 2 years, helping to grow a start-up business. This is probably the biggest risk I had taken until then, not knowing the culture nor anyone who could or would support me. However I quickly went about my ways and ended up working in the corporate world in IT in the Financial Services, where I am still working to date - 15 years on. I love my job as a IT Project Manager, I get to sit with decision makers, people that help to make a difference professionally and support important projects. Working in high pressure environments, made me realise that if we do not look after our Mental Health we can deteriorate quicky and as a result of this – leading to decreased productivity.
As it happened, people knew, through word of mouth, about my Life and Mental Health coaching and approached me for advice. I have no doubt in what I believe in, learnt throughout my life journeys; what’s worked for me, works for others evidently. I came to the realization that what felt natural to me, isn’t necessarily something everyone possesses and after much encouragement from friends and family, whom I supported over the years, here I am – Lilly’s Life Lab came to life!
